## Introduction

Do you feel unwell since having kids?

Do you feel like your energy just hasn't recovered even though it reasonably should have?

You have goals and plans for your health but every day you struggle to make any of them happen simply because you are too tired and unmotivated.

Sound right?

Let's talk energy...

## Factors Affecting Energy Levels

What gives us energy?

Sleep, of course, recharges our body and mind for the following day. But what about rest? Are your waking hours filled with stress that drains your energy?

Food provides calories, macronutrients (protein, fat, carbohydrates), micronutrients (vitamins and minerals), and other important nutrients that directly influence our energy levels and support hormone function. So often, moms neglect to eat enough food due to their busy lifestyles.

Water is the medium for all the chemical reactions in the body. Therefore, a lack of water will slow all of those chemical reactions down, including those pertaining to energy production!

Movement: though it is tough to move when we are already low on energy, even small bouts of exercise can have a big impact on energy.

Hormones: Lastly, certain hormone dysfunctions, such as hypothyroidism, cortisol imbalances, or low testosterone, can absolutely affect energy and are worth investigating alongside sleep, diet, and movement.

## Avoiding Caffeine Dependence

If your initial answer to the above question was caffeine, know that you are not alone! But remember that over the long term, caffeine dependence and lack of proper sleep, nutrition, and exercise will only exacerbate the issue and contribute to hormonal dysfunction and other disease states.
